This flight jacket belonged to Major Charles L. Kelly, one of the leading figures in establishing the need for independent aeromedical evacuation units. His actions and exploits were also instrumental in forming the basis for the special esprit de corps of all "DUSTOFF" units.While on a MEDEVAC mission on 01 July 1964 in Vinh Long, Vietnam Major Kelly was advised to leave dangerous airspace. His reply, "when I have you your wounded," was delivered just moments before he was killed by enemy fire. His sacrifice was recognized by the posthumous award of the Distinguished Service Cross. Worn by Major Charles Kelly (KIA) during service in Southeast Asia. Kelly was the Commanding Officer of the 57th Medical Detachment (Helicopter Ambulance) from 11 January 1964 until he was killed in action on 1 July of the same year while trying to evacuate a wounded American advisor along with several ARVN wounded. ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 22, 2022) U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen in the Naval Weapon Systems (EW300) course participate in an explosives demonstration outside of Rickover Hall. The course uses the "detect to engage" framework to examine each part of the finding, fixing, targeting, engaging and assessing process. The purpose of the demonstration is to combine the processes learned throughout the semester in order to simulate the real-world deployment of missiles, torpedoes, grenades or warheads, using balloons and the application of heat.

A wooden crate more than a century old is shown Aug. 26 , 2022, at the Fort McCoy History Center in the historic Commemorative Area at Fort McCoy, Wis. The crate was donated to Fort McCoy by Alan McCoy of Sparta, Wis., who is the grandson of Maj. Gen. Robert Bruce McCoy for whom Fort McCoy is named after. The crate, which once carried lard buckets, traces back to the time of Camp Emery Upton and Camp Robinson in Wisconsin around 1910.
