Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. The high degree of teamwork and cooperation among the various United Nations units in Korea was demonstrated recently when the entire crew of Thailand's escort vessel Prasae was rescued by U.S. Navy force after the ship went aground and caught fire during a snowstorm off the Korean east coast. Rescue ships were unable to approach the burning vessel. The Thai crew members then jumped into the joy water in an effort to reach the nearby beach, which was under constant enemy fire. Trawler Crew Rescued By Breaches Buoy When Ship Is Holed -- A member of the crew of 'Venus' being hauled up the sea wall after leaving the stricken ship by breeches buoy.A breeches buoy was used in the rescue of the crew of the Belgian fishing trawler 'Venus' which ran aground off Ostend, Belgium, when she was trying to reach Ostend Harbour in Arctic weather The vessel was holed and heavy seas threatened to pound her to pieces. The captain decided to abandon ship, and a line was shot to members of the Belgian coast guard rescue service ashore. One by One, the members of the crew were hauled to safety, thou their clothing froze as they passed over the icy sea. March 06, 1947.

The Police Force Of The River Thames A River Police patrol gives medical attention to an injured bargee by the River Thames. The oldest part of London's Metropolitan Police Force, the Thames River Police, was formed in 1798. In 1839, ten years after Sir Robert Peel had formed his police force, the two combined to become the Metropolitan Police as we know it today. The River Police Station at Wapping is built on the site of London's oldest court - the "Thames Police Court". Although they keep a sharp lookout for wrongdoers, the River Police are more often employed in rendering first aid to drowning people, or helping river workers, than in making arrests. Tanks Storm Beach In Mock Invasion -- "Enemy" forces coming ashore from landing craft at Portsmouth. "Enemy" forces were invading the south of England this morning in Runaground 111 - the biggest combined operation amphibious exercise since the war. The Glorious Gloucesters were there, tough Royal Marine Commandos and Hussars, boarding the landing-craft with their Centurion, Sherman, and Churchill tanks. There was even a helicopter taking part in a beach-landing for the first time.
