The "Richelieu" Now Serving With The Allies -- The Richelieu as she entered Oran. The 35,000-ton French battleship Richelieu has arrived at Oran from New York to serve with the Allied Naval units under the direct command of the Royal Navy. Launched in January 1939, the Richelieu cost £11,000,000. She has eight 15-inch guns, fifteen 6-inch, two catapults and four aircraft. Her speed is 30 knots. She was damaged by British naval torpedoes at Dakar on July 8th. 1940, and a month before she escaped from Brest on the day the Germans entered the town. December 7, 1943.
