Ten Heaven Reaching of Maria, 1739 - 1782 copper (metal) engraving

At center, a woman stands on a columnar pedestal decorated in relief with two putti supporting a medallion of a plant. This is flanked by two seated dogs, which rest on a larger base decorated with a frieze representing an antique sacrifice. This central unit rests on an oblong base with round ends supported by calyces; upon each end are two seated women supporting flaming urns (an alternate design is suggested at each end). The left urn is decorated with a band with an octagonal medallion of a bust; cornucopias drape from the frame. The right urn in the shape of a flared sketch of the inkstand is at upper right. Bordered and mounted like 1938-88-2109. Pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash, graphite on off-white laid paper, lined. Date: 1787-1793. Museum: Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

Lazio Rieti Rieti S. Giovenale. Hutzel, Max 1960-1990 Post-medieval: Architecture, sculpture, ceiling frescoes, painting. S. Giovenale was originally constructed in the 15th century under a different dedication. In the 18th century it was restructured and renamed. The church possesses a marble tomb dedicated to Isabella Alfani, the wife of Angelo Maria Ricci, which is decorated with a bas-relief by the Danish artist Bertel Thorwaldsen (1829). German-born photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1911-1988) photographed in Italy from the early 1960s until his death. The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Images are organized by geographic region in Italy, then by province, city, site complex and monument.

Probably for the young Pretender Charles Edward Stuart, who died in 1788. Steps lead to a platform upon whose corners are oblong pedestals with sitting female figures. Between the pedestals is a woman with sitting female figures. Between the pedestals is a woman shown from the front sitting upon the platform and pointing at the inscription at the sarcophagus which rises behind her. Above it is a circular pedestal with a band above its frieze similar to 1938-88-1263. On top is a huge statue. The background is colored in the shape of an oblong; some framing strokes are at left.
