The sinking of the Cunard ocean liner RMS Lusitania occurred on 7 May 1915 during the First World War, by a German U-boat, hitting the Lusitania twice with torpedoes, sinking within 18 minutes, killing 1198 passengers. Germany released a false statement that the Lusitania carried guns, with two quick-fires behind armoured-shields are shown on the upper deck forward, on either side of the forecastle near bows. 7 May 1915

On 6 January 1897 the Royal Indian Marine troopship RIMS Warren Hastings left Cape Town (South Africa) bound for Mauritius. On the 14 January 1897, eight miles off course and traveling at a speed of 12.5 knots, in pitch dark, pouring rain and thick fog, ran straight into the rocks on the coastline of R鵮ion, (Indian Ocean). Carrying 993 passengers, only resulted in two deaths. Date: 14 January 1897
