On one of the occasions which sometimes occurs on carriers, when it becomes necessary to clear the deck very quickly after an aircraft has made a crash landing. The aircraft, so badly damaged, is not worth repairing and after stripping every useful part the remainder is thrown over the side into the sea.

The Long Journey Home. Liberated from Jap prison camps I the Philippines, American and British internees climb the gangway to board the Coast Guard-manned troop transport which will carry them across the Pacific to the United States. Hundreds of men, women and children, who for three long years suffered from slow starvation in Los Banos and Santo Tomas prison camps, made the long journey to California after weeks of hospitalization and convalescence under protection of American Forces occupying the Manila area.

Sinking of Ss Athenia, September 1939 A young boy wrapped in a blanket is passed down from the gangway of the Norwegian vessel KNUTE NELSON at Galway harbour, Ireland. Another survivor also wrapped in a blanket can be seen on the gangway. They had been rescued from the passenger liner SS ATHENIA which was torpedoed by U-30 on the evening of 3 September 1939 off the north west coast of Ireland and sank the next morning.

German POW's Repatriated - The POW's are seen embarking at Southampton in the U.S. transport James W. MacAndrews, bound for Bremerhaven. All were wearing left-off U.S. Army clothing. Popular Front Republican sailors during the Spanish Civil War

Royal Air Force Operations in Malta, Gibraltar And the Mediterranean, 1940-1945. Sergeant D Goodwin RCAF, a pilot of No. 229 Squadron RAF, about to be rescued by the crew of High Speed Launch HSL 107 of the Malta Air/Sea Rescue Unit, after being forced to ditch his Supermarine Spitfire in the Mediterranean, 30 miles west of the island.

HMS H42 was a British H class submarine built by Armstrong Whitworth, Newcastle Upon Tyne. She was laid down in September 1917 and was commissioned on 1 May 1919. HMS H42 was sunk after being rammed by the British destroyer HMS Versatile off Gibraltar on 23 March 1922. All of her 26 crew were lost.
