Young Actor's Scrapbook.....A new "discovery" in Hollywood, but a glimpse at Peter Lawfords scrapbook reveals that the handsome English lad is no newcomer to the screen. He began an acting career under Director Monte Banks in London at the age of seven and was soon dubbed the "Jackie Coogan of England." Later he made three trips around the world with his father and mother, Sir Sidney and Lady Lawford, appeared in an American picture in 1938, traveled some more and returned to Hollywood in 1942. Starting then in juvenile roles, he was given increasingly important parts until now he is cast in his first leading romantic role, in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayers "Son of Lassie.” He won this opportunity for stardom with a powerful performance as Irene Dunnes son in "The White Cliffs of Dover."By the time he was eight, Peter was a celebrity, honored guest at royal banquets both on the continent and in England. Dean Gooderham Acheson (April 11, 1893 - October 12, 1971) was an American statesman and lawyer. As United States Secretary of State in the administration of President Harry S. Truman from 1949 to 1953, he played a central role in defining American foreign policy during the Cold War. Acheson helped design the Marshall Plan and played a central role in the development of the Truman Doctrine and creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Acheson's most famous decision was convincing President Truman to intervene in the Korean War in June 1950. He also persuaded Truman to dispatch aid and advisors to French forces in Indochina, though in 1968 he finally counseled President Lyndon B. Johnson to negotiate for peace with North Vietnam. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John F. Kennedy called upon Acheson for advice, bringing him into the executive committee (ExComm), a strategic advisory group.
