The State Railways, SJ Z61 361. Lokomotor Z 61. In the mid-1950s, SJ bought three new two-axle locomotives to renew Lokparken. Lokomotors got Littera Z61, Z62 and Z63. The locomotive Z61 was manufactured by Kockums and had about the same construction as the other two. The locomotive Z61 differed in appearance from Z62 and Z63.

USA, Locomotive Erie, 1949, The nation's first gas turbine-electric locomotive, a joint development of the American locomotive company and general electric company, made its public debut june 16 before rail executives at Erie, PA. The new locomotive, which outwardly looks much the same as a diesel-electric unit, is powered by a gas turbine similar in principle to that of the jet airplane.
