Charles Davis, Inmate Number 7657, at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. Charles Davis was sentenced to three years for housebreaking in 1911. When asked about his crime, he replied, I was charged with breaking a pane of glass in the Levi’s store in Washington, D.C. and taking a suit of clothes to which I pleaded not guilty.
