S84-26297 (3 Feb 1984) --- Robert E. Castle, Integrated Communications Officer (INCO), plays an important role in the first television transmission from the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Challenger. Castle, at a console in the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Mission Operations Control Room (MOCR) in the Mission Control Center (MCC), is responsible for ground controlled television from the Orbiter on his shift. Here, the Westar VI satellite is seen in the cargo bay just after opening of the payload bay doors.

This photograph depicts a French aeroplane radio set, specifically the TYPE ES. It was taken in the Research & Inspection Lab in Paris, France. The photograph was released by the A.E.P. Censor on January 7, 1919, and the notes state that the unique identification number for this image is 30666.

New Television Camera Will Have Festival Debut -- A new-type television camera which will be on view to visitors to the Festival of Britain site on the South Bank of the Thames. Designed to fulfil the exacting requirements of both producer and operator, the C.P.S. Emitron camera has a 6lens turret - an entirely new conception in television. The arrangement of the lens turret is such that the lenses not in use are below the level of the camera top, in order to ensure that the operator has an unobstructed view. April 5, 1951.

This device is used in connection with the S.C.R.67, a ground-to-air communication set for airplanes equipped with S.C.R.68 or S.C.R.69.

Image 111-SC-36348 shows a radio telephone set installed in an airplane. The set, known as SCR-91, utilizes VT-I tubes and includes an amplifier tube, detector tube, and a 35-cond wave length switch. The set also features binding posts, a shock absorber, HTG plate, and a rubber cushion. The images also show the antenna box, primary-secondary tickler, and contact springs.
