The Man of Sorrows 1470-1480 Italy. Devotional woodcuts were heavily used in 15th-century Europe, variously folded and carried as talismans, pasted on bedroom walls, and kept in family Bibles. While hundreds were printed at the time, only a handful of impressions have survived to today. The only remaining extant copy of the image, this impression was pasted into the frontispiece of a book from a German Augustine nunnery, where viewers would have imagined Christís pain through repeated study and imitation. The woodcut offers an intensely personal focal point of meditation on Christís suffering. Like the nearby Thirteen Buddhas (1925.1697), he appears as a floating vision. Nearly naked after his Crucifixion, blood streams from his nail wounds and crown of thorns.. Hand-colored woodcut, printed on ivory laid paper . Unknown artist

The Naxi or Nakhi are an ethnic group inhabiting the foothills of the Himalayas in the northwestern part of Yunnan Province, as well as the southwestern part of Sichuan Province in China. The Naxi are thought to have come originally from Tibet and, until recently, maintained overland trading links with Lhasa and India. The Naxi form one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. The Naxi are traditionally followers of the Dongba religion. Through both Han Chinese and Tibetan cultural influences, they adopted Tibetan Buddhism and, to a lesser extent, Taoism, in the 10th century.

Saint Bernardino Preaching from a Pulpit ca. 1470-75 Francesco di Giorgio Martini Italian Essentially a small painting on parchment, this miniature contains an unusually vivid and naturalistic portrait of the famous Sienese preacher Fra Bernardino degli Albizzeschi (1380-1444), canonized by Pope Nicholas V in 1450. He is dressed in the habit of the Franciscan Order, preaching from a wooden pulpit, as was his custom in Siena and in other cities across Italy. The image, perhaps from a book of hymns in honor of Saint Bernardino, was executed by Francesco di Giorgio, a Sienese painter, illuminator, sculptor, architect, and military engineer.. The Tacuinum (sometimes Taccuinum) Sanitatis is a medieval handbook on health and wellbeing, based on the Taqwim alsihha تقويم الصحة ('Maintenance of Health'), an eleventh-century Arab medical treatise by Ibn Butlan of Baghdad. Ibn Butln was a Christian physician born in Baghdad and who died in 1068. He sets forth the six elements necessary to maintain daily health: food and drink, air and the environment, activity and rest, sleep and wakefulness, secretions and excretions of humours, changes or states of mind (happiness, anger, shame, etc). According to Ibn Butln, illnesses are the result of changes in the balance of some of these elements, therefore he recommended a life in harmony with nature in order to maintain or recover one’s health. Ibn Butln also teaches us to enjoy each season of the year, the consequences of each type of climate, wind and snow. He points out the importance of spiritual wellbeing and mentions, for example, the benefits of listening to music, dancing or ha

Noah (or Noe, Noach; Hebrew: נֹחַ, וֹחַ, Modern Noaẖ Tiberian Nōăḥ; Arabic: نُوح Nūḥ; Greek: Νωέ; Macedonian: Ноа) was, according to the Hebrew Bible, the tenth and last of the antediluvian Patriarchs. The biblical story of Noah is contained in chapters 6-9 of the book of Genesis, where he saves his family and representatives of all animals from the flood by constructing an ark. He is also mentioned as the 'first husbandman' and in the story of the Curse of Ham. Noah is the subject of much elaboration in later Abrahamic traditions. Noah is also mentioned several times in the Qur'an.
