Artist: Paul Revere, American, 1735-1818, The Bloody Massacre Perpetrated in King-Street Boston on March 5th 1770 by a Party of the 29thRegt., Hand-colored engraving, 11 1/2 × 9 3/4 in. Businessman-turned-politician Samuel Adams recognized the power of this conflict as a political tool to whip up anti-British sentiment among the colonists, and urged silversmith-patriot Paul Revere to prepare an engraving of the scene for publication in the Boston Gazette. The event would come to be recognized as one of the major incidents leading up to the Revolutionary War—the BostonMassacre. , Made in United States, American, 18thcentury, Works on Pa
