Mohammed II (1432-1481), called Faith or Conqueror, was the Ottoman Turkish sultan from 1451 to 1481. His conquest of Constantinople in 1453 guaranteed the consolidation of the Ottoman Empire.

Portrait of Sultan Süleyman I. The most famous Sultan of the Ottoman Dynasty Süleyman I the Great had the nickname 'the legislator' or 'the great'. He ruled from 1520 to 1566 and was known as tolerant man with great cultural interest. In 1566 and 1567 the Danish engraver Lorch stayed in Constantinople. A view of the city and a few Turkish portraits are known from these years. He has portrayed the Sultan twice in 1559, feet in his palace and as a bust.

Tavik Frantisek Simon (1877-1942), was a Czech painter, etcher, and woodcut artist. Although based mainly in Europe, his extensive travels took him to Morocco, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), India, and Japan, images of all of which appear in his artistic work. He died in Prague in 1942. Largely ignored during the Communist era in Czechoslovakia, his work has received greater attention in recent years.
