He also wrote The Scarlet Letter, Blithedale Romance, The House of Seven Gables, The Marble Faun. With his superb creation of dark-hued atmosphere, his symbolism, and his blend of realistic detail and romantic-even melodramatic theme, Hawthorne stands as one of Americas top novelists.
