Meeting of Prince Albert and the Emperor of the French, at Boulogne, 1854. Royal representatives of the allies meet in northern France during the Crimean War. 'The Emperor and the Prince raised their hats as soon as they perceived each other. The Prince, on stepping ashore, again raised his hat; the Emperor then put out his hand, and a most cordial shake was exchanged...all the vessels in the harbour gaily decked with flags; brilliant uniforms in every direction; ladies' dresses of every hue. The batteries fired a salute of nineteen guns; and the military bands played "God Save the Queen.

The early 1900s caption reads: Prince Frederick viewing the body of General Douay. The Prussian crown prince Frederick, afterward the Peace emperor Frederick III, was one of the chief generals and heroes of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. He won its first battle at Weissenburg. The French commander, General Douay, fell fighting bravely, and in their hurried retreat his soldiers left his body behind, guarded only by his faithful little dog. In the illustration the victor and his staff with uncovered heads, saluting with respect the body of their gallant foe.
