Responding that both knew that it is immortality to me to be bound up with you,” Cameron willingly accepted the assignment. Costuming family and friends, she made some 245 exposures to arrive at the handful she wanted for the book. Ultimately—and predictably—she was unhappy with the way her photographs looked reduced in scale and translated into wood engravings, and she chose to issue a deluxe edition, at her own risk, that included a dozen full size photographic prints in each of two volumes.. Typically made by Victorian upper-class women, the photocollaged pages could include added elements as simple as a watercolor flourish in the middle of the page or a frame drawn around a mounted photograph. The photocollages however, could also be elaborate, full-paged compositions made with a variety of drawing materials and integrating photographs, found printed materials, and/or colored paper. _The Westmorland Album_ includes examples of all these options. Many of the cartes-de-visites were inserted in specially manufactured album pages that came with slots. Many of those pages have watercolored floral designs at the center.
