This photo dates to 1897 or earlier and shows the Pallas of Velletri, which is housed in Munich. Pallas is another name the ancient Greeks used for the goddess of wisdom - Athena. The Athena of Velletri or Velletri Pallas is a type of classical marble statue of Athena, wearing a helmet. This bust of Athena is a copy from the 2nd century CE, probably after a cult statue by Kresilas in Athens. The inlaid eyes were lost.
