CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The external fuel tank for space shuttle Atlantis' STS-125 mission to NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is towed to the dock in the turn basin in the Launch Complex 39 Area in NASA's Kennedy Space Center. After docking, the tank will be offloaded and moved to the Vehicle Assembly Building, at left. Once inside the building, the tank will be raised to vertical, lifted and moved into a checkout cell. Stacking of the tank and solid rocket boosters is planned to start Aug. 7. Atlantis is targeted to launch Oct. 8.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Viewed from the NASA News Center, a tug boat in the background maneuvers the Pegasus barge into the turn basin at the Launch Complex 39 Area. The barge holds the redesigned external fuel tank, designated ET-118, that will launch Space Shuttle Atlantis on the next shuttle mission, STS-115. The tank was shipped from the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. After off-loading, the tank will be moved into the Vehicle Assembly Building and lifted into a checkout cell for further work. The tank will fly with many major safety changes, including the removal of the protuberance air load ramps.

NASAs mobile launcher, carried atop the crawler-transporter 2, returns to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) on Dec. 20, 2019, after spending months at Launch Pad 39B undergoing final validation and verification testing at the agencys Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Standing 380 feet tall, the mobile launcher - which will be used to assemble, process and launch the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft - will remain inside the VAB until it is ready to return to the pad with the rocket and spacecraft on top for the “wet dress rehearsal” ahead of the Artemis I launch.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket first and second stages arrive at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., on their way to the Atlas Spaceflight Operations Center, or ASOC. There, the launch vehicle will begin processing for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution, or MAVEN, spacecraft to the Red Planet. MAVEN is being prepared for its scheduled launch in November from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Positioned in an orbit above the Red Planet, MAVEN will study the upper atmosphere of Mars in unprecedented detail.
