The airport runway is two miles long and is being used by United States Air Force C-130E Hercules aircraft from the 86th Air Wing out of Ramstein Air Base, Germany, for Operation ASSURED LIFT. ASSURED LIFT is a Joint Task Force (JTF) operation to provide airlift and other logistical support to West African states that are deploying more than 600 troops to Liberia as part of the region's ongoing peacekeeping mission. Office buildings are next to the control tower at Fokto Air Base in southern Hungary. U.S. Air Force and Army units from across Europe and the United States combined forces from 16-21 November, 1995, to survey the condition of four airfields in Hungary for possible use by U.S. forces should they be sent as a peacekeeping force in Bosnia.
