Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Gateway To Two Oceans.Strategically placed at the gateway between the Pacific and the Indian oceans, Singapore is a key point in the rearmament of Britain's overseas defense forces. Notable addition to the island in recent years has been the civil aerodrome which, as this picture shows, has ideal facilities for both landplanes and marine aircraft. Imperial Airways flying boats call here six times a week on their way eastward to Australia and westward to India, Egypt and England. April 19, 1939.

While construction men look on, the first plane takes off. Most such construction work is first of all a race against time, building new airfields or re-building captured enemy ones, so that the march to Tokyo may not be slowed. April 11, 1944.

The damage caused by a German V-2 rocket which exploded at the junction of Wanstead Park Road and Endsleigh Gardens in Cranbrook, Ilford, on 8 March 1945. Aerial view from the south showing the damage resulting from a German V2 rocket missile which exploded at the junction of Wanstead Park Road and Endsleigh Gardens in Cranbrook, Ilford, Essex, England on 8 March 1945. As a result of the incident, nine people were killed, fifteen seriously injured and nineteen slightly injured. 8 houses were destroyed, 16 had to be demolished, 33 were rendered uninhabitable and 116 were very seriously damaged. In the photograph, clearance work is underway on the site. At top left can be seen demolished houses on Belgrave Road, the result of another hit by a V2 on 21 February.
