Skyway to Orient -- The famous China Clipper shown soaring over the Golden Gate outward bound to Hawaii and the Philippines on the first airmail flight over the Pacific. It was Pan American Airways' inauguration of commercial flying service to the Orient on November 22, 1935. Below the Clipper is the skeleton of the Golden Gate Bridge, long since finished. In the background are the hills of San Francisco, topped with office skyscrapers and tall apartment houses.
