European Volunteer workers -- Under the Government scheme for the recruitment of men and women for the under-manned industries, a large number of people from the Displaced Persons Camp in the British Zone of Germany have volunteered.Known as European Volunteer Workers, they receive the Some pay and general conditions as would British workers, of whom there are insufficient to fill these special jobs.Their contract is for one year after which the general position of each Industry will be reviewed, with a possible offer to the workers of permanent settlement in this country. European Volunteer Workers are mostly accommodated in well appointed hostels, although a number have been allowed to go into private lodgings where these are available. September 13, 1951.
