National Institute Of Agricultural Engineering -- A two-furrow plough by Bristol Tractors is used on a dynamometer, then the width and depth of the furrow slices are noted. Calculation gives pounds pull per square inch of furrow slice section so that the draught of this plough can be truly compared with that of other ploughs. (The field is not owned by the Institute. The farmer who gave permission for the land to be used gets a large area ploughed for nothing: the Institute gets its test. September 21, 1951. (Photo by Pictorial Press).

Hopping in Kent- Hop-picking in Yalding, Kent, England, UK, 1944 On a hop farm in Yalding, Kent, a group of hop-pickers empty the contents of a large canvas bin (into which freshly-picked hop cones have been placed) into a sack, with the aid of a basket. Mrs Hicks (left foreground), whose job it is to measure and book the quantities picked, looks on.
