CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Astronaut Chris Ferguson monitors weather conditions aboard a Shuttle Training Aircraft, or STA, at Kennedy Space Centers Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida leading up to space shuttle Discoverys landing on Runway 33 at 9 08 a.m. EDT. Discovery completed the 15-day STS-131 mission to the International Space Station. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA's Shuttle Training Aircraft lands at the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida with STS-127 crew members aboard. The crew is returning to Kennedy to prepare for space shuttle Endeavour's July 11 launch on the 29th assembly flight to the International Space Station. This will be the third launch attempt due to the leak of hydrogen gas at the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate during tanking on two previous attempts, June 13 and June 17. The STS-127 mission is the final of three flights dedicated to the assembly of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Kibo laboratory complex. Endeavour will deliver the Japanese Experiment Module's Exposed Facility, or JEM-EF, and the Experiment Logistics Module-Exposed Section, or ELM-ES.

STAs are Gulfstream II business jets that are modified to mimic the shuttle's handling during the final phase of landing. Practice landings are part of standard training before space shuttle Endeavour's upcoming STS-134 launch to the International Space Station.Endeavour's six crew members are at Kennedy for the launch countdown dress rehearsal called the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT) and related training. Targeted to launch April 19 at 7:48 p.m. EDT, they will deliver the Express Logistics Carrier-3, Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 (AMS), a high-pressure gas tank, additional spare parts for the Dextre robotic helper and micrometeoroid debris shields to the space station. This will be the final spaceflight for Endeavour.

Several service vehicles have arrived to prepare the aircraft for its flight back to Johnson Space Center in Texas. Atlantis arrived at Kennedy Space Center atop the SCA on July 3 after a three-day, cross-country flight due to fuel stops and weather delays. Touchdown was at 8:27 a.m. EDT. NASAs X-57 Maxwell, the agencys first all-electric X-plane and first crewed X-planed in two decades, is delivered to NASAs Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California in its Mod II configuration. The first of three primary modifications for the project, Mod II involves testing of the aircrafts cruise electric propulsion system. Delivery to NASA from prime contractor Empirical Systems Aerospace of San Luis Obispo, California, marks a major milestone for the project, at which point the vehicle is reintegrated for ground tests, to be followed by taxi tests, and eventually, flight tests. X-57s goal is to further advance the design and airworthiness process for distributed electric propulsion technology for general aviation aircraft, which can provide multiple benefits to efficiency, emissions, and noise.
