Digital images are arranged geographically, first by country, then by city, then by site complex or monument, with all names in alphabetical order. Location names are derived from the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN)®, Library of Congress subject headings, and scholarly publications. Published images are followed by unpublished images. Versos of prints and slide mounts were not digitized. The information in any handwritten identifications found on these surfaces was incorporated into the metadata for individual images.
