Scenes from a King's Thirty-Year Jubilee ca. 2575-2551 B.C. Old Kingdom After thirty years on the throne, the pharaoh celebrated a jubilee intended magically to rejuvenate the divine yet vulnerable monarch. This fragmentary relief, which formed part of a series of scenes depicting these complex and enigmatic rituals, was intended for a royal cult structure at a pyramid. In the main preserved register, the goddess Meret chants "Come and bring" to the pharaoh, whose large running figure would have been depicted beyond the broken left edge of the block. The standard-bearer who preceded him remains, and courtiers with their titles inscribed above complete the scene. Like most of the royal Old Kingdom royal reliefs in this collection, this block was excavated at a Middle Kingdom pyramid site where it had been reused in the inner structure. Such blocks can be assigned to the Old Kingdom by their inscriptions or style. Although no royal name identifies the pharaoh here, the straight edges con

Relief depicting Senedjemib Mehi a vizier from the fifth dynasty of Egypt. Senedjemib Mehi started out his career under Djedkare Isesi and eventually became vizier under Unas. around 2300 BC. This relief of the Old Kingdom represents a man in the attitude of the march, holding in his left hand a stick and in the right a sceptre of command. He wears a loincloth with a smooth triangular tongue, held by a tied belt. It is adorned with a brace-let at each wrist as well as a wide necklace and a short and curled wig, which clears the goggle; a little beard ome his chin.

This carved relief from a tomb in Saqqara shows a slave with gazelle from tomb in Saqqara. This relief of a slave carrying an offering of a gazelle is from the chapel of Raemkai that was originally built and decorated for an official named Neferiretnes. The reliefs in this section show the tomb owner's attendants bringing six steppe animals to their lord. The animal attendants are called Ka-servants, meaning they were employed on the estates that supplied the provisions for the tomb owner's funeral cult. The attendant pictured here was named Ptahshepses and he carries a domesticated gazelle.

Tiglath-Pileser III was a prominent king of Assyria in the eighth century BC (ruled 745-727 BCE) and is widely regarded as the founder of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Tiglath-Pileser III seized the Assyrian throne during a civil war and killed the royal family. He made sweeping changes to the Assyrian government, considerably improving its efficiency and security.
