Lion-Headed Goddess 664-30 B.C. Late Period-Ptolemaic Period Lion-headed goddesses in Egypt encompassed numerous deities including Sakhmet, Wadjet, and Bastet, among others. In this guise, the goddesses were fierce protective deities, but ones that could also bring about destruction on behalf of the gods, both through violence and through plague and pestilence. This figure utilizes several iconographic elements common to many lion-headed goddesses including the upright standing posture, the lions mane combined with a tripartite wig, the long gown, and the sun disk. This figures arms, long in proportion to the body, emphasize her tall, slender frame. The sun disk, when worn by a lion-headed goddess, is sometimes linked with Wadjet, and alludes to her role as the daughter and eye of the sun god Re, but many goddesses shared this aspect and similar inscribed statuettes name several different deities; without an inscription or context, it is difficult to assign a precise identity to this

Metal Fittings probably for an extra-sepulchral funerary figure ca. 1295-1070 B.C. New Kingdom, Ramesside This unusual set of metal fittings most likely came from some sort of funerary figure that was placed in a cult setting other than the tomb. Finds of such figures are relatively uncommon, so there are few comparanda for this object. It clearly belonged to a woman from the elite class. The fittings include her head and upper torso; two arms; and a human-headed bird with outstretched wings. She is shown with a long wig, large round earrings, a necklace, and a fillet of some sort adorned with a lotus blossom, signifying rebirth. The two arms would have been folded on her chest, embracing the human-headed ba bird, symbolizing one aspect of her intrinsic personality.. Sculpture, 6th-9th century, 6 in. (15.2 cm), Ceramic, Mexico, 6th-9th century, Both men and women wore wraparound hipcloths or skirts. These garments were woven in long pieces, stitched together as they came off the loom, and wrapped and draped in elaborate folds around the body. Excess material hung from the waist, as seen here, or was dramatically flung over the shoulder.

Onuris. Dimensions: H. 17.5 × W. 3.4 × D. 6.4 cm (6 7/8 × 1 5/16 × 2 1/2 in.). Date: ca. 1070-664 B.C..Onuris had many aspects, among them he was a hunter whose prowess represented the control of chaotic forces, and he protected the sun god Re's bark against Apep. And, apparently already at least from the late eighteenth dynasty, he was identified with Shu and incorporated in versions of the Myth of the Faraway Goddess as the agent sent by Re to retrieve his angry lioness daughter from Nubia. Onuris and his city of Thinis became prominent in the Ramesside Period with many important officials serving as priests of Onuris. He continued to be important through the first millennium, becoming of emblematic importance to the Kushite kings, and one of the patron gods of the Thirtieth Dynasty kings who arose from Sebennytos, the Delta city of Onuris. Standing male figure ca. late 1st millennium B.C. This standing male figure is a funerary or votive object intended to be placed in a tomb or temple. Dressed in a long, plain garment reaching almost to the ankles, the figure stands in a fully frontal pose. The base, which is carved in one piece with the figure, bears the name of the individual and his clanSadiqim Ma'ad. The eyes and eyebrows are carved to hold inlays, now missing, and the arms are bent at the elbows, extending out at right angles to the body. One hand is clenched in a fist, pierced vertically to hold some object, perhaps a scepter, now lost. The other hand is open. The undersurface of the base and the top and back of the figure's head are roughly carved. Such statues were often set in niches, and the surfaces not visible were consequently left unfinished on many examples. Horse frontlet carved in relief with a female figure flanked by lions ca. 9th-8th century B.C. Assyrian Over two hundred ivory and gypsum alabaster equestrian bridle-harness ornaments have been found at Nimrud. The majority, including this fragmentary triangular frontlet which adorned a horses forehead, were found in a large storeroom (Room SW 37) at Fort Shalmaneser, a royal building at Nimrud that was probably used to store tribute and booty collected by the Assyrians while on military campaign. Although equestrian bridle-harness ornaments in similar form are shown in Neo-Assyrian palace reliefs, it is not possible to know whether the ornaments in the reliefs were meant to represent work in ivory or in more durable materials such as bronze or iron. Ivory pieces like this one may have been used ceremonially, as votive dedications or as processional regalia, rather than in battle. Bust of an Official 380-342 B.C. Late Period Only very occasionally do Egyptian statues seem to convey a mood of sadness or concern like this one. This statue has plausibly been dated to the post-Persian Period where such features seem to fit best. The position of the arms and the lack of a back pillar suggest the original statue represented a cross-legged sitting official; if so, it would then be one of the several revivals in the fourth century of features that had gone out of vogue in early Dynasty 26.. Neith 664-332 B.C. Late Period Neith was a powerful goddess with many different aspects, but was perhaps best known in the first millennium BC as the goddess of the powerful city of Sais in the Delta. In copper alloy she is represented in anthropomorphic form. She wears the red crown, otherwise known as the Lower Egyptian crown, and the long form-fitting dress common to many goddesses. Her arm position suggests that she may have held a scepter in her outstretched hand and perhaps an ankh sign in the other. Sometimes on more elaborate figures, her crown is striped, usually with precious metal inlay, as seen on 26.7.846. Although Neith was worshipped from the beginning of Egyptian history to the end, her cult grew to great prominence in the 26th dynasty, when her cult center Sais became the capital of the Saite dynasty kings. Date: ca. 945-525 B.C..This figure is part of a repertoire of figures created in a distinctive spotted faience from dynasty 22 into dynasty 26. The center of production was the eastern Delta, in particular Bubastis and Tanis; this was an area where Near Eastern peoples had long been interwoven in the population; at this time it was also a center for the settlement of Libyan tribal peoples. Possibly these conditions influenced this particular production. Through their appearance, the figures all allude to the goddess Bastet. In particular, many details evoke the myth termed "The Return of the Faraway Goddess." The feline / leonine Bastet was angry with the god Re and left Egypt for Nubia.
