Khonsu 664-30 B.C. Late Period-Ptolemaic Period This figure represents a child deity standing and holding a scepter. The moon disk, sidelock, and close-fitting mummiform garment identifies him as Khonsu the Child, the son of the deities Amun and Mut, who together formed the great Theban triad. The sidelock worn just below the moon disk marks him as a child god. Child gods grew to great prominence in the first millennium BC, and many statuettes of such gods were produced beginning in the Third Intermediate Period through the Ptolemaic Period. After Horus the Child (Harpokrates), the son of Isis and Osiris, Khonsu was one of the most celebrated and most frequently represented child gods.. Khonsu 570650

Standing female worshiper ca. 2600-2500 B.C. Sumerian This statue of a standing woman with her hands clasped in front of her chest was found in the plasterings of a mud-brick bench located in one of the cellas of the Nippur temple of Inanna (Level VIIB), the Sumerian goddess of abundance. Her garment is draped over her left shoulder and falls in folds indicated by two incised lines along the border of the otherwise smooth fabric. The feet are carved in high relief against the back support and the toes and ankles are clearly indicated. The wavy hair is held in place by two plain bands, and curly locks hang down on either side of the face. Inlay of shell and lapis lazuli survives in her left eye. The best-preserved statues at Nippur are those that were buried within the temple furniture, like this example. Double-flute player ca. 945-525 B.C. Third Intermediate Period-Late Period This figure is part of a repertoire of figures created in a distinctive spotted faience from dynasty 22 into dynasty 26. The center of production was the eastern Delta, in particular Bubastis and Tanis; this was an area where Near Eastern peoples had long been interwoven in the population; at this time it was also a center for the settlement of Libyan tribal peoples. Possibly these conditions influenced this particular production. Through their appearance, the figures all allude to the goddess Bastet. In particular, many details evoke the myth termed "The Return of the Faraway Goddess." The feline / leonine Bastet was angry with the god Re and left Egypt for Nubia. Re wanted her back again, so he sent the god Thoth, who, taking the form of a monkey, lured her back with fables. The features of the goddess suggest a date to the end of the 26th dynasty, or the 30th dynasty. As the kings of the 30th Dynasty built important buildings including a temple to the goddess Nehemet-aui at Hermopolis, the seat of the god Thoth, it is plausible this statue is Nehemet-aui. Head of Amenhotep III Wearing the White Crown ca. 1390-1352 B.C. New Kingdom This small-scale head depicts pharaoh Amenhotep III wearing the white crown, adorned with an uraeus. Its facial features identify him as Amenhotep III. The size and the style of the sculpture are reminiscent of the shabtis made for Amenhotep IIIs burial in the Valley of Kings (KV 22), however the remains of a back pillar on the rear right side of the crown point towards another purpose. This fragmentary head should rather be related to the small three-dimensional representations of Amenhotep III that were produced in a variety of materials as votive offerings in temples or as cult figures.. Harpokrates 7th-4th century B.C. Third Intermediate Period-Late Period The figure represents a child god in a striding/standing position, wearing the double crown, which alludes to his royal status. The child god is distinguished from adult gods by a range of iconographic clues: his nudity, the finger raised to the mouth (a child-like gesture), and the sidelock on the right side of his head. The sidelock was separately cast and mechanically attached using a small pin, which is still visible near the head. Silver inlay, meanwhile, highlights his eyes and the amulet on his chest. The amulet is suspended on a string that knots at the back of the neck, and it is a common attribute for child gods.Child gods grew in popularity and cult from the Third Intermediate Period onwards, rivaling even the most powerful and ancient gods, especially as temple offerings.
