Late Period-Ptolemaic Period Small Late Period and Ptolemaic reliefs or sculptures that depict a subject in a partial or unfinished way but are themselves finished objects constitute a special class of object. Guidelines like those for artists are often prominently exhibited as part of the object, although, in fact, many instances can be noted where the object simply could not serve as a suitable model for a traditional formal Egyptian representation. Personifications of kingship, figures that may represent the now emerging demigods Imhotep and Amenhotep Son of Hapu, and popular gods like Harpokrates or Isis, are heavily represented within the corpus. Female Figure. Culture: Tlatilco. Dimensions: H. 2 15/16 in. (7.4 cm). Date: 12th-9th century B.C..This solid, hand-modeled ceramic figurine is buff in color and painted with a red pigment. She has bulbous thighs and stunted, splayed arms, and a pair of long braids extends down her back. Although the figure's navel, mouth, and right ear appear to be pierced (perhaps to support removable jewelry), her only adornment is a coiled necklace that conforms to the thick contours of the neck. Sculpted some three millennia ago in the Valley of Mexico, this figurine belongs to a group of ceramic effigies known collectively as the Tlatilco "pretty ladies." Depicting females with large heads, small waists, and prominent hips, these handheld sculptures present a fairly standardized body type and are typically fired to red, buff, or brown tones. As the popular embodiments of an ideal feminine form, the Tlatilco "pretty ladies" are part of a centuries-long tradition in which eccentricities and relig

Portrait head of an unknown Roman. The roundish head with tricky proportions is probably the extremely realistic portrait of a higher military leader. Balled, almost brutal physical force is decisive for the impression of this head, which - used to a Togastatue - originally belonged to a tombstatue. The portracks and randomities of the appearance are described in clerish openness: the large, protruding ears, the crooked mouth, the "crow's feet" on the eyes, the cheekwarzes and the short-screw skull. The closing eyes with the strong brews and the frowning give the face to his dark, determined expression. The strict physiognomy puts values of the aristocracy of the late Roman republic in the picture: concern (lat. Cura) and responsibility for the Res Publica, would (lat. Gravitas), seriousness (Lat. Severitas), resistance (lat. Constantia) and ACTORITAS . Loyalty (Latin Fides) shows a scar on the forehead, which testifies by a injury suffered in the fight. The head belongs to those ver
