reliefs inside the Pyramid Complex of Unas, at Saqqara, near Cairo in Egypt. It was built for pharaoh Unas, the ninth and final king of the Fifth Dynasty in the mid 24th century BC. the pyramid of Unas is the first to have texts on the walls of its burial chambers. The spells of these Pyramid Texts were thought to be useful to the dead king in the afterlife; some were recited during his burial ceremonies. The hieroglyphs in Unas' pyramid are incised in fine sunk relief and painted blue, while the ceiling of the sarcophagus chamber is covered with stars

Tiraz Textile Fragment late 10th century The manufacture of this undated tiraz textile can be definitively linked to the last quarter of the tenth century, specifically to the reign of the fifth Fatimid Caliph, al-Aziz bi’llah (r. 975-996). Covering the entire field, the tapestry-woven Arabic inscription in kufic script reads, "In the name of God, the Merciful, the Beneficent, Victory [is from God. . al-Mansūr, the Imam al-Aziz bi’llah, Commander [of the Faithful." Under al-Aziz bi’llah, Egypt's economy prospered and the Fatimid dynasty's territory reached its furthest extent. The kingdom of Champa (Campadesa or nagara Campa) Chăm Pa in Vietnamese, 城 Chiêm Thành in Hán Việt and Zhàn chéng in Chinese records) was an Indianized kingdom that controlled much of southern and central Vietnam from approximately the 7th century through to 1832. Champa reached its apogee in the 9th and 10th centuries. Then began a gradual decline under pressure from Đại Việt, the Vietnamese polity centered in the region of modern Hanoi. In 1471, Viet troops sacked the northern Cham capital of Vijaya, and in 1697 the southern principality of Panduranga became a vassal of the Vietnamese emperor. In 1832, the Vietnamese emperor Minh Mạng annexed the remaining Cham territories. Mỹ Sơn, a former religious center, and Hội An, one of Champa's main port cities, are now UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The gravestone of Gaius Calpurnius Receptus, the priest in charge of the temple of Sulis Minerva. He carried out religious ceremonies in the courtyard and temple. The monument is shaped as an altar, and so stands as the only Roman British memorial which reflects the occupation of the deceased through its shape. Circa 1st-4th century AD.

Hieratic ostracon New Kingdom, Ramesside ca. 1295-1070 B.C. Ostraca (plural for ostracon) are potsherds used as surfaces on which to write or draw. The term is used, by extension, to refer to chips of limestone, which were employed for similar purposes. Despite their humble appearances, ostraca bear a wide range of images and texts, including administrative documents, literary texts, and depictions of royal and divine figures. The texts were mostly written with reed pen and ink of two colors, red and black, and inscribed in Hieratic, the cursive script of ancient Egypt throughout most of its periods. South Arabia as a general term refers to several regions as currently recognized, in chief the Republic of Yemen; yet it has historically also included Najran, Jizan, and 'Asir which are presently in Saudi Arabia, and Dhofar presently in Oman. The frontiers of South Arabia as linguistically conceived would include the historic peoples speaking the related South Arabian languages as well as neighboring dialects of Arabic, and their descendants. Anciently there was a South Arabian alphabet, which was borrowed by Ethiopia. (99.06 x 101.6 x 23.5 cm), Black limestone, China, 6th century, This epitaph tablet, a testament to the art of Chinese calligraphy, consists of three basic parts: (1) the official title of Prince Zheng Qing, who was uncle to the ninth ruler of Wei, Emperor Zheng Guang (520-524); (2) the Imperial eulogy and memorial decree, composed by his nephew the Emperor; (3) the date of the burial, the third day of the second month in the fifth year of Zheng Guang (524). As the memorial relates, the prince was the grandson of the the sixth emperor of northern Wei. He served as a prince for the state of Zhao and was Commanding General of the successful Southern Expedition. He died in his prime and was buried in the Pei-mon Mountains north of the capital of Luoyang.
