Portion of a Historical Text Portion of a Historical Text, ca. 1809-1743 B.C.E. Papyrus, ink, 35.1446a-e: 11 1/2 × 71 5/8 in. (29.2 × 182 cm). When complete, the papyrus to which this fragment belonged measured almost seven feet long. The texts are written in a cursive form of hieroglyphs called hieratic. Differences in handwriting and in the historical events described demonstrate that different scribes added new inscriptions over several generations. The most important text recounts the efforts of a Thirteenth Dynasty Theban noblewoman named Senebtisi to establish legal ownership of ninety-five household servants, whose names indicate that forty-five were of Asiatic origin. The presence of so many foreigners in a single household suggests that the Asiatic population was increasing rapidly in Thirteenth Dynasty Egypt. As was customary, some of these foreigners no doubt married Egyptians, adopted Egyptian beliefs and cultural traditions, and were absorbed into the cultural mainstream.

Replica of the Rosetta Stone a granodiorite stele, found in 1799, inscribed with three versions of a decree issued at Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty on behalf of King Ptolemy V. The top and middle texts are in Ancient Egyptian using hieroglyphic script and Demotic script, respectively, while the bottom is in Ancient Greek. As the decree has only minor differences between the three versions, the Rosetta Stone proved to be the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs. The stone, carved during the Hellenistic period

Mededeelingen van 's Rijks Herbarium Leiden Rijks Universiteit Rijks Herbarium 1911 horsetails, The display features four distinct artifacts, each showcasing intricate patterns and textures. The first section exhibits a long, rectangular piece with parallel grooves and ridges, suggesting a methodical carving or natural formation. The second segment presents a fragmented surface, where a mix of linear and curved designs creates a dynamic visual contrast. The third area reveals a more compact form with a densely packed texture, hinting at a unique craftsmanship or geological markings. Lastly, the fourth region features a smoother, flatter surface with subtle indentations, possibly indicating wear or intricate detailing. Each piece invites exploration of its historical and artistic significance, reflecting the skill involved in their creation and the stories they may tell.

Sleeve of Mail 16th century German From about the third century B.C. through the early fourteenth century A.D., mail, also called chain mail, was the predominant and most effective type of body armor known in Europe. From about the mid-fifteenth century onward, mail was used in conjunction with full plate armor to fill the gaps between plates. Separate mail sleeves were made to be worn with a cuirass (breastplate and backplate); shaped panels of mail called gussets, covered the armpits or the crooks of the elbows and were attached to arming jackets, garments specially tailored to be worn under armor; and mail breeches, called brayettes or pairs of paunces, could be worn by men fighting on foot..
