A logvin has been applied to a brass plate, which drives a counter with a screw without end. This indicates Vadems on one side, to the other dozens of Vadems. When collecting the lead, the logvin is blocked by a circular blocking device; Because of this it was not necessary to know the moment that the lead hit the bottom. The screw is disconnected by pulling the ship into the ship. The vertical rails against the stern and the screws that the screw frame moves are provided with teeth; This includes palls of the screw window that prevents the back sliding. The palls can be retired so that the screw frame can pock up. Beams against the stevens keep the screw window down and must be removed before lighting. This is a machine calculated distance travelled. This machine, however, was already known in antiquity, given that Leonardo did nothing more than re-elaborate the Odometer devised by Heron Alexandrinus, a Greek inventor who lived in the First century AD. Unlike the former one, the Odometer that Leonardo designed was shaped a little like a push cart and had a toothed wheel mechanism. Each time the wheel on die ground turned, the vertical toothed wheel turned once, in turn actuating a horizontal wheel. The latter contained metal balls or stones, which fell through a hole into a bucket: counting them at the end of the journey allowed the distance travelled to be calculated.Sweden, Blekinge, Blekinge, Karlskrona, Karlskrona, external marina (depicted, town).Sweden, Blekinge, Blekinge, Karlskrona, Karlskrona, External War Gogs (depicted, City)Bronze double-action water-pump. Roman Probably 3rd century AD. From Bolsena, Italy. This pump had two pistons which were raised and lowered by a rocking-beam. The pistons were housed in two cylinders. At the bottom of each cylinder was a non-return valve. When one of the pistons was raised, the valve was pushed open and the water rose inside the cylinder. When the piston reached its highest point the valve closed, trapping the water inside the cylinder. On its downward stroke, the piston forced the water out through a side pipe. It then passed through a second valve into the central discharge pipe where it drained away.Engraving depicting a floating buoy with a warning bell.
