French textile manuscript, ca. 1820, ca. 1820, an instruction manual for a school associated with a manufactory begins with a history of silk manufacture and continues with discussion of contemporary silk makers in Spain, Italy and France. The text is illustrated with 136 intricate drawings of looms, many in watercolor, showing set-ups for various patterns and materials, and includes 102 tipped-in examples of fabric. The chapters contain detailed information on silkworms and their breeding, the pulling of silk, and the composition of fashion materials, including gauze and damask.

Design for the Decoration of a Wall with Grotteschi in the Antique-Style. Artist: Luzio Luzzi (also known as Luzio Romano, Luzio da Todi) (Italian, active Rome, documented 1519-1582). Dimensions: 9 3/8 x 5 1/2in. (23.8 x 14cm). Date: 1545.This drawing was recognized as a typical work of Luzio Luzzi by Eraldo Gaudioso in 1976 (see Bibliography: Gaudioso 1976 and 1981), who also identified the design as preparatory for the room in the Castel Sant'Angelo, nicknamed "Cagliostra." This is a large hall close to the loggia of Pope Paul III Farnese (1534-1549). The room was entirely decorated in fresco by Luzio Luzzi, a collaborator and associate of Perino del Vaga, as documented by payments to the artist of May and December 1545. Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae: Castrum 1581 Giovanni Ambrogio Brambilla Italian This print comes from the museums copy of the Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae (The Mirror of Roman Magnificence) The Speculum found its origin in the publishing endeavors of Antonio Salamanca and Antonio Lafreri. During their Roman publishing careers, the two foreign publishers - who worked together between 1553 and 1563 - initiated the production of prints recording art works, architecture and city views related to Antique and Modern Rome. The prints could be bought individually by tourists and collectors, but were also purchased in larger groups which were often bound together in an album. In 1573, Lafreri commissioned a title page for this purpose, which is where the title ‘Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae first appears. Lafreri envisioned an ideal arrangement of the prints in 7 different categories, but during his lifetime, never appears to have offered one standard, bound set of prints. Instead, cli
