Worship of Stone Image of Shiva and Parvati within a Shrine, c. 1710. Northern India, Himachal Pradesh, Pahari Kingdom of Chamba. Gum tempera on paper; page: 38 x 24.8 cm (14 15/16 x 9 3/4 in.). When this drawing featured in Sothebys 2011 auction of the Stuart Cary Welch collection, it was attributed as a South Indian study of a temple interior. The image is a drawing of an actual temple and shows Shiva and Parvati with Nandi. A separate sheet of paper attached to the reverse bears various invocations, probably added later.
