It is designed to emphasise the co-operation necessary between the citizen and his elected councillors.Sixteen students of the Art Department of the Brixton School of Building are helping to build a full-scale exhibition for Lambeth Council's Civic Week which opens in the Town Hall on Sept 18 to 26. Working in a large, disused A.R.P. depot at Brixton, they are painting murals, building stands and frames, and designing sets which will show the history of Lambeth and the borough's serivce today. Spaak, first President of the United Nations Assembly and Belgian Foreign Minister, has been posing Mr. Olam Nemon the Yugoslav sculptor, who is to crave a bust of the statement in stone. Most of the sittings, which are given in the sculptor's Kensington studio, have to take place at right, when M. Spaak has finished his work in connection with the U.N.O. conference. Canterbury Cathedral Stained Glass is RestoredThree of the four roundels, containing some of the thousands of pieces of glass, which Mr. Baker is seen assembling. Roundels depict scenes in the life of St. Stephen, and will go into the Archbishop Iang Memorial window in the St. Stephen's Chapel, Canterbury Cathedral. The priceless stained glass windows of Canterbury Cathedral, some of them 12th century work, are now being restored in the Cathedral's own workshop at Canterbury, Kent. A young London artist Mr. J. Baker, is making progress with the work, both in the restoratich, and replacement of the ancient glass. Some of the windows have to be reconstructed from thousands of fragments of glass. Larry Rivers (August 17, 1923 - August 14, 2002) paints Woman on the Moon in his Chelsea Hotel studio in 1964. He is joined here by Jill Johnson. Rivers, born Yitzrok Loiza Grossberg, began as a jazz saxophonist and was a contemporary and friend of Miles Davis. As a painter, he produced pop art that bordered on the abstract and became one of America's most important postwar artists.

The reason for the change lies in the purchase of the Building, former headquarters of the company La Unión y el Fénix, by another company.

Churchill Receives Malta's Tribute -- Sir Winston Churchill remains seated as Mr. Justice A.J. Montanaro Gauci, on behalf of the people of Malta, presents the George Cross Island's tribute to the former Premier - a bronze bust of himself and a bound illuminated address containing the names of subscribers. The presentation took place at Sir Winston's London home at Hyde Park Gate today (Wednesday). The gift was originally intended for Sir Winton's 80th birthday, but he could not grant Maltese sculptor Vincent Apap sittings before last September. Famous Maritime Collection Presented To The Greenwich Museum -- Fred Barnes left and Arthur Goodacre, both of Peckham, removing some of the figureheads from his home to be sent to the Greenwich Museum. Mr. Sydney Cumbers, of "The Look out," Gravesend, where he lives is a wellknown figure in the Shipping world, and is known as "Long John Silver", has collected a marvellous selection of figureheads. model-ships, and various Marine trophies, for which he has refused a considerable large sum of money for this collection. Australian artist Moya Dyring, who has lived in Paris for a number of years, is on her way here with a collection of 70 paintings which she'll exhibit in Sydney. This week Sydney artists expressed great interest in her landscapes, mostly of the French countryside. June 01, 1953.
