After completing the installation of the eastern courtyard in 1969, the paintings department received new rooms on the top floor. Room 212a was divided into several spaces with installation walls.

Ruysdaelzaal on the 1st floor where breakthrough is made to the eastern courtyard; Renovation of the eastern courtyard, sixties. The renovation of this courtyard was started in 1964. Two floors were constructed, resting on prestressed concrete beams. As a result, other than at the installation of the western courtyard opened in 1962, the classification of the space was not determined by the support points of a steel skeleton. All passages to the courtyard came ready in 1965. Two rooms were made on the upper floor that were connected to the surrounding paintings. The remaining space was carried out as exhibition space.
