German-born photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1911-1988) photographed in Italy from the early 1960s until his death. The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Canvases Before Clothes - Here's the unusual story of a Queensland girl's five year's aboard. Just as most women collect souvenir charms for a bracelet and fashionable clothes on a world trip, artist Margaret Cilento, back in Brisbane after five years aboard, collected scholarships, canvases, and a series of sordid studios. Although none of the scholarships carried much kudos or monetary gain they kept her paint box and larder full, and although the studios ranged from basements in New Yorks Greenwich Village to an attic on Paris left bank they served their purpose. In this room work from Titian, Tintoretto and Moroni and a showcase with Maiolica. The Rijksmuseum cooperated in the exhibition 'Italian art in Dutch possession'. The content of the Italian room was transferred to the Stedelijk Museum. The room was renovated during this vacancy.

United States: 1941Mrs Gloria Noble, widow of the noted painter John Noble, found one of his paintings, 'Sunrise Over Boulogne', in the collection of Wiliam Randolph Hearst that had been badly retouched, so she purchased it from Hearst and sliced out and kept the unretouched part and destroyed the rest of the painting.

It is now covered with scaffolding in order that the ancient vault and walls, which are within a few years of their seven hundredth birthday, may be cleaned and the real beauty revealed.
