Sinbad the Sailor is of Middle Eastern origin. His tale is, in modern times, often connected with and/or included in The Thousand and One Nights, or the Arabian Nights, but it originally was not part of it. This early 1900s illustration shows Sindbad and the episode of the Old Man of the Sea. This is Sindbad's fifth voyage and he is shipwrecked and the Old Man of the Sea enslaves him.

The Letter 1890-1891 United States. Mary Cassatt began a series of color prints in 1890 that exemplify her indebtedness to Japanese color woodblock prints and her thematic focus on figures in interiors. These 12 prints come from Love, a series of color lithographs that form a disjointed narrative about a woman who experiences love, although it is unclear if she is falling in love with a man, nature, or her faith. Each soft and dreamlike image is paired with a caption of fragmented poetry that serves as its title, but these phrases do not directly describe their corresponding images.
