Umbria Perugia Spello S. Maria della Rotonda2. Hutzel, Max 1960-1990 Located on the outskirts of Spello, this church stands in a state of semi-dilapidation among tall grasses and cypress trees. It was built on a Greek cross plan with an octagonal cupola and attached cloisters. The Renaissance portal (1517) remains shut as the key is now lost. Interior views focus on the octagonal cupola, the three altarpieces, and their frescoes which are all in urgent need of repair. The large main altarpiece acts as a choir screen, and separates one arm of the church from the rest of the interior. Subjects of the altar frescoes (by Mezzastris) include the Madonna Lactans, the Madonna and Child between Pope Gregory and St. Michael, the Virgin and St. Anne, the Annunciation, the Coronation of the Virgin, and Saints Peter and Michael. The standing man on the left is wearing a hip rug (Veshti, Lungi) above his knees and is also completely wrapped in a wrap (Chadar). Only the fingers of his left hand and his head protrude. On the right on a wooden beam (or stone) is a man. He only wears a hip rug, suspended above the knees. The folds hang on and next to the sitting beam. The upper body and the arms are uncovered.
