Anatomy Sketchbook Eastman Johnson (American, 1824-1906). Anatomy Sketchbook, 1849. Graphite on beige, medium weight, slightly textured laid paper, Sketchbook: 17 1/8 x 11 1/16 x 3/8 in. (43.5 x 28.1 x 1 cm). Eastman Johnson used this sketchbook while enrolled in an anatomy class at the Düsseldorf Royal Academy in Germany. The meticulous, almost scientific precision of his skeleton studies reveals the schools emphasis on draftsmanship and anatomical knowledge as fundamental tools for the artist. Many of the drawings include grids and other geometric guidelines, as well as notations about ideal proportions of the human body. Johnson parlayed his academic training into a successful career as a painter of American genre subjects. American Art 1849

Travel album with sights in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium. Photo album in band of black Moroccine leather. The bracts have a marble pattern. The album contains 50 blades with gold on slice and 106 photos, 2 of whom are released on cardboard. They are mainly city and street views and mountain landscapes in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium. All photos have handwritten captions, running from 27 July to September 1899. These are probably referring to the date on which the unknown album assembly has visited the relevant places. Having regard to the Dutch-language captions and the place where the album was manufactured (Brussels), this was probably a Flemish traveler.

His sketchbook records his impressions while traveling, including this charming study of a picturesque French doorway made, perhaps, at Saint-Cloud, or in Paris. American Art 1880

Photo album of vacations by Frank Willem van den Berg, 1933-1934, Frank Willem van den Berg (1912-1998), 1933-1934 scrapbook Scrapbook with 126 photos and 18 photo mechanical prints, spread over 42 pages. Between page 22 and 23 are five menus cards, a brochure of a game, a passenger list and a picture postcard of the ship the SS Orania. In addition, there is also a brochure about wines from Madeira. Two postcards are loose in the album in the back. The last 29 sheets of the album are empty. The majority of the photos were taken by Frank Willem van den Berg, but a few photos are by Hendrik Herman van den Berg. It also contains photographic or photomechanical postcards that have been purchased on the spot. One sees a holiday to Tenerife and Madeira in 1933, a weekend to Bruges, a car trip through Zeeland, Belgium and Luxembourg and a trip to England.
