The title page is followed by two text magazines with the assignment to Mr Leonor Chabot and a sonnet in which Sambin is called the 'Perle de Nostre Aage'. Dimensions: 21 1/8 x 15 1/16 x 1 3/16 in. (53.7 x 38.3 x 3 cm). Date: 1763.An album containing a manuscript description and original drawings for the engravings published in 1763. Where missing, replacements were supplied by Chamber's office, or by the artists Thomas Sandby, William Marlow and Joshua Kirby. The contents include a title page, dedication to Lord John Stuart, Earl of Bute, three double-sided leaves describing the plates, followed by 43 leaves containing drawings upon which the engraved plates in the 1763 publication are based, plus an unpublished plan. Further additions include: "The Ceiling of the Alhambra" (34.78.2(34)), tipped in on the verso of plate 20 (page 25), and an early layout plan of the grounds (51.635.1), inserted before the final drawing. On January 26, 1778, Willem Carel Dierkens and Willem Hendrik van Nieuwerkerke left The Hague for a trip to southern Italy, Sicily and Malta. Later Nicolaas Ten Hove, Nathaniel Thornbury and the Swiss artist Louis Ducros also joined them. Ducros recorded the sights on the way, which were mounted at home after the trip in three albums.
