A Statue For Australia -- Mr. G. Watson - a workman, is dwarfed by the huge statue at the Foundry, 15ft in height. King George is wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter. The fine bronze statue of King George Vth ordered by the Australian Government for Parliament Buildings at Canberra, is now nearing completion at the London Foundry of Messrs Morris Singer & Co. The statue is the work of two Australian sculptors both now dead, Mr. J. E. Moorfield who executed the model to the design of Mr. C. Raynor Hoff. Sir William Reid Dick supervised the casting. Restoration Of The Interior Of The Guildhall -- Mr. Charles Druce of West Norwood has the task of giving a new arm to the statue of William Beckford, twice Lord Major of London 1762-3 and 1769-1770.On December 29th, 1940, when the Guildhall was bombed, much of the stonework in the Great Hall and mars of the statues and memorials were damaged. Famous sculptors at present replacing the stonework to the figures and of the famous oak is also being replaced by stone. 'Grateful' Queen Mary Lends Needle Work Panel For Bath Assembly -- The needlework panel by Queen Mary which is to be exhibited at the Bath Assembly. Queen Mary is lending a panel of her needlework for public exhibition at the Bath Assembly, annual arts festival opening on May 7, as a 'special mark of gratitude for the kindness and hospitality' she received in Bath during the war. The loan is exceptional since Queen Mary does not normally lend her work for exhibition. The panel was worked to a design from the Royal School of Needlework. It is signed 'Mary R' and dated '1944. Open-Air Art Exhibition At Lambeth -- An open-air art exhibition organised by the Lambeth Council outside Lambeth Palace, across the river from the Houses of Parliament, gives the local children an excellent opportunity for a close study of modern painting. With slightly perplexed faces they scan the pictures by the three artists chatting in the background. The canvasses arc stored in Lambeth Palace each night and are protected by tarpaulin booths on wet days. September 22, 1950.
