Mrs. Ellis Hanged -- The official notices of execution outside the Prison. The one the left certifies that judgment of death was executed and the one on the right signed by the Prison surgeon certifies that Mrs. Ruth Ellis is dead. Extra Police were called to control the crowds outside Holloway Prison on Wednesday, July 13th, when attractive 29 year old Mrs. Ruth Ellis, mother of two children, was hanged for the murder of her lover, racing driver David Blakely. Police held the crowds back until the notice of execution had been posted outside the prison and then they tried to form queues as people filed past to read the notice.July 12, 1955.
