Veg-04B focuses on the effects of light quality and fertilizer on the leafy Mizuna crop, microbial food safety, nutritional value and the taste acceptability by the crew. The space botany research is also informing NASA how to provide fresh food for crews on long-term space missions.

ISS034-E-062051  (3 March 2013) --- Taking advantage of a weightless environment onboard the Earth-orbiting International Space Station, Expedition 34 Flight Engineer Chris Hadfield of the Canadian Space Agency juggles some tomatoes, which he probably considers to be among the more delicious components of a recent "package" that arrived from Earth on March 3. The SpaceX Dragon 2 spacecraft brought up a large shipment of food and other supplies, and the spacecraft will remain docked to the station for three weeks. Hadfield is in Node 1 or Unity.  The U.S. lab or Destiny is in the background.

Hurley, STS-127 pilot, is pictured on Endeavour's mid deck while most of the crewmembers are busy on the orbital outpost.  Crew members worked a great deal of robotics issues on this day, working from inside to move hardware around on the outside.

In chorus with the cosmonauts and astronauts on the International Space Station, Sturckow's crew earlier had successfully carried off four sessions of extravehicular activity to perform important work on the ISS.  Crews aboard the space shuttle Atlantis and the space station bid farewell to one another and closed the hatches between their spacecraft at 5:51 p.m. on this day in preparation for the shuttle's departure the following morning at 9:42 a.m. The hatch closing wrapped up eight days of docked operations.
