S128-E-007282 (4 Sept. 2009) --- Onboard the International Space Station since July, astronaut Tim Kopra is pictured on the orbital outpost a little less than a week before his scheduled return to Earth. Earlier this week, Kopra changed roles from Expedition 20 flight engineer to STS-128 mission specialist. Kopra came up to the station with the STS-127 crew and participated in a spacewalk on July 18. He will return to Earth aboard the Discovery on a scheduled Sept. 10 landing.

The TRAC investigation will test the theory of brain adaptation during space flight by testing hand-eye coordination before, during and after the space flight.

ISS009-E-23442 (18 September 2004) --- Astronaut Edward M. (Mike) Fincke, Expedition 9 NASA ISS science officer and flight engineer, performs one of multiple tests of the Capillary Flow Experiment (CFE) investigation in the Destiny laboratory of the International Space Station (ISS). CFE observes the flow of fluid, in particular capillary phenomena, in micro-G.

S135-E-008851 (17 July 2011) --- This image shows NASA astronaut Chris Ferguson, STS-135 commander, in the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module. The photo serves as the "after" shot following a great amount of work by joint crews from Atlantis and the International Space Station to transfer supplies to and from the two spacecraft. ISS017-E-017541 (27 Sept. 2008) --- NASA astronaut Greg Chamitoff, Expedition 17 flight engineer, works with the Minus Eighty Degree Laboratory Freezer for ISS (MELFI) as part of the Nutritional Status Assessment (NUTRITION) experiment in the Destiny laboratory of the International Space Station. MELFI is a low temperature freezer facility with nominal operating temperatures of -80, -26 and +4 degrees Celsius that will preserve experiment materials over long periods. The results of the Nutrition experiment will be used to better understand the time course effects of space flight on human physiology.

ISS046e047972 (02/25/2016) --- ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Timothy Peake participates in the Airway Monitoring experiment. With dust particles present in the International Space Station atmosphere, Airway Monitoring studies the occurrence and indicators of airway inflammation in crewmembers, using ultra-sensitive gas analyzers to analyze exhaled air. This helps to highlight any health impacts and to maintain crewmember well-being on future human spaceflight missions, especially longer-duration missions to the Moon and Mars for example, where crewmembers will have to be more self-sufficient in highlighting and avoiding such conditions.

Voss is one of two astronauts assigned to space walk duties after the Space Shuttle Discovery and the International Space Station (ISS) link in Earth orbit. The first United States Microgravity Laboratory (USML-1) was one of NASA's science and technology programs that provided scientists an opportunity to research various scientific investigations in a weightless environment inside the Spacelab module. It also provided demonstrations of new equipment to help prepare for advanced microgravity research and processing aboard the Space Station. The USML-1 flew in orbit for extended periods, providing greater opportunities for research in materials science, fluid dynamics, biotechnology (crystal growth), and combustion science. This experiment was to evaluate and find effective ways to supply nutrient solutions for optimizing plant growth and avoid releasing solutions into the crew quarters in microgravity. Bursch, who has been aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for the past six months, wastes little time in going to work on board the Space Shuttle Endeavourfollowing linkup of the shuttle and station on June 7, 2002. ISS035-E-022379 (17 April 2013) --- Russian cosmonauts Pavel Vinogradov (center) and Roman Romanenko (right) donned their Orlan spacesuits once again on the International Space Station on April 17. The two are seen with NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy outside the Pirs Docking Compartment airlock during a suited dry run dress rehearsal of the procedures they will conduct during a scheduled April 19 spacewalk. Cassidy will remain inside the orbiting complex throughout the spacewalk.
