The old Olympic recoed was set at 3: 47.8 in 1936 by Jack Lovelock of New Zealand.Second place went to Bob McMillen of USA (992) in the same time as the winner.Third was Werner Lueg of Germany (739) in 3:54.4.Fourth was Roger Bannister of Britain (77) in 3:46.0.Fifth was Roger El Mabrouk of France (Between McMillen and Barthel) in 3:46.0.
