Archive 1900s Ford Company Model T motorcar assembly line The creation of the moving assembly line by Henry Ford at his Highland Park plant, introduced on December 1, 1913, revolutionized the automobile industry and the concept of manufacturing worldwide. Sheer production of the Model T dramatically increased. The production time for a single car dropped from over 12 hours to just 93 minutes due to the introduction of the assembly line. Fords 1914 production rate of 308,162 eclipsed the number of cars produced by all other automobile manufacturers combined. Detroit Michigan USA

Established in 1937, Volkswagen is the top-selling and namesake marque of the Volkswagen Group, the holding company created in 1975 for the growing company, and is now the biggest automaker in both Germany and Europe. Volkswagen has three cars in the top 10 list of best-selling cars of all time: the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Beetle, and the Volkswagen Passat. With these three cars, Volkswagen has the most cars of any automobile manufacturer in the list that are still being manufactured.

The Saturn IB and Saturn V flight vehicles first stages were manufactured at the Michoud Assembly Facility located 24 kilometers (approximately 15 miles) east of downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. The basic manufacturing building boasted 43 acres under one roof. By 1964, NASA added a separate engineering and office building, vertical assembly building, and test stage building. By 1966, other changes to the site included enlarged barge facilities and other miscellaneous support buildings. The image is a view of various vehicle components in the manufacturing plant.
