U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant (jg) Stephen Lucid Robert McNichols, formerly of Denver, Colorado, receives the Bronze Star Medal from Vice Admiral Russell R. Waesche (left), Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, at ceremonies in Headquarters, Washington, D.C., on July 13, 1944. Rear Admiral Charles Park looks on. The medal was presented by Admiral C. W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, in the name of President Roosevelt. Lieutenant McNichols was cited "for heroism and meritorious achievement during the assault on enemy positions in the Pacific Ocean in the early months of 1944" when, as assistant boat group commander, "he assisted in loading the landing boat group of his ship, under fire, in three separate attacks upon islands of the enemy stronghold." Before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, Lieutenant McNichols studied at Regis College in Denver and at Catholic University Law School in Washington, D.C. He is married a

Pasadena Coast Guardsman Awarded Medal For Action Off Norman Coast. Coast Guardsman Carter Barber, of Pasadena, Calif., is presented the Navy and Marine Corps Medal by Coast Guard Captain W. F.
