The Ma clique is a collective name for a group of Hui (Muslim Chinese) warlords in northwestern China who ruled the Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Gansu and Ningxia from the 1910s until 1949. There were three families in the Ma clique ('Ma' being a common Hui rendering of the common Muslim name, Muhammad), each of them controlling one area respectively. The three most prominent members of the clique were Ma Bufang, Ma Hongkui and Ma Hongbin, collectively known as the 'Xibei San Ma', (The Three Ma of the Northwest). Some contemporary accounts, such as Edgar Snow's, described the clique as the 'Four Ma', adding Ma Bufang's brother Ma Buqing to the list of the top warlords.

Cuban Refugees Found by Coast Guard. A Coast Guard aircraft on patrol over the Cay Sal Bank, about 30 miles off the northern coast of Cuba, sighted this group of 16 Cuban refugees on Sunday, April 7th, stranded on Anguila Cay. The twin-engine "Albatross" plane swept low over the beach and the refugees waved for recognition and rescue. In this photo, shot by Photographer's mate first class Edmund Katz of Manassas, Va., only 14 persons are visible. Two in the foreground are babies in arms. Two other persons who were sick are presumably under the makeshift shelter at right. The Coast Guard plane dropped survival kits to the stranded Cubans, and directed the Coast Guard Cutter Androscoggin which was on patrol in the area to the scene for evacuation. The refugees were all delivered safely to Miami the following morning (Mon, 8 Apr.).

Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

British Parade at Akaba -- A party of men of the Lincolnshire Regiment paraded for detail on tenterection duties as the British force rushed to the Red Sea port at the request of the Transjordan Government, settles in. The force, nicknamed "Oulton's Force" after commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel H.J. Oulton, was announced as having been sent to Akaba by General Headquarters, Middle East Land Force, January 9. Reports that Israeli troops were reported to be advancing in the direction of Akaba are believed to have prompted the invocation of the Anglo-Transjordan treaty of March 1948. Serbian artillery withdraw in World war One 1915

The First Anglo-Afghan War was fought between British India and Afghanistan from 1839 to 1842. It was one of the first major conflicts during the Great Game, the 19th century competition for power and influence in Central Asia between the United Kingdom and Russia, and also marked one of the worst setbacks inflicted on British power in the region after the consolidation of British Raj by the East India Company.
