Evangeline, a Tale of Acadie, is an epic poem by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Evangeline was an Acadian girl and the story tells of her search for her lost love named Gabriel. It is set in the time of the Expulsion of the Acadians. The expulsion was the forced removal of the Acadian people by the British during the French and Indian War (1755-1764). They were removed from the Canadian Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine. It was written in English and published in 1847.
